Two-thirds of Australians are now divorced or separated from their partner, according to the latest research.
The research from the Australian Bureau of Statistics found that an average of four marriages in Australia are now ending in divorce, with half of those ending in remarriage.
It found that the average marriage length in Australia is now seven years, and that the number of couples having a divorce is at its lowest level since at least 2011.
The number of divorces and separations has also fallen, with the number dropping by around one-third over the last five years.
However, there is still a long way to go, with just 12% of Australians aged 18-49 living together at the start of this year, compared with 38% in 2012.
The ABS found that one in four Australian marriages are ending in a divorce, which it said was a lower proportion than in previous years.
It said a similar proportion of marriages were ending in civil separation, meaning the two parties can no longer live together in a civil marriage.
