The Christian marriage of modern society is incompatible with Christianity, a leading Christian denomination said in a statement Monday.
The statement was released after the World Christian Union released a report that said Christianity and marriage are not compatible with modern societies, and that it has been more than 100 years since a single American Christian married another American.
The WCCU said it is “concerned about the current state of the church’s teachings and practices regarding marriage, divorce and procreation, and its continuing refusal to promote marriage as the ultimate union of one man and one woman.”
It said the “unusual” position taken by the WCC in this matter is not consistent with the Bible’s teachings.
“In addition to being inconsistent with biblical principles and biblical law, the practice of the WCCC has contributed to a growing epidemic of unintended pregnancies, child abuse, and sexual and physical abuse in the name of Christian values and the sanctity of human life,” the statement said.
“This trend has created an environment where a growing number of Christians are being forced to choose between their personal values and their Christian responsibilities.
The WCCC should work to promote and promote the most effective way of supporting and preserving marriage and family in the 21st century.”
The WCPU said that many Christians are reluctant to make decisions about their personal lives that may affect their faith.
The organization’s statement comes after the National Christian Foundation, which has been at the forefront of efforts to overturn gay marriage laws in the U.S., released a poll this month that found that more than one in five Americans said they do not want gay and lesbian couples to marry.
