New Delhi, Aug. 29 (UPI) — Indian marriage licenses will be recognized after a Supreme Court ruling that said a marriage license was invalid.
Indian officials said the move comes after a judge in the state of West Bengal ruled that the license issued after the divorce of two men is valid.
The move comes amid protests from women who say the practice of marriage in India is not the norm.
More than 200,000 couples are married in India, with nearly 40 percent of them getting married outside the country.
