A New York woman has found her husband guilty in a child abuse investigation after she accused him of having sex with her when she was 13.
Mariah D. Leger, who is originally from Maryland, filed a civil lawsuit in state court on Wednesday against her husband, John Leger.
The lawsuit alleged that he had sexually abused her in the 1980s.
Leger, 50, has not entered a plea to the charges, but she said her husband had been unfaithful and abusive to her.
In December, the New York State Office of Child Protection and Adoption announced it was launching a criminal investigation of John Legeger.
The state is also looking into the matter of whether Leger was aware of the abuse when she filed the complaint.
The state attorney general’s office has not said if it will seek to prosecute Leger on those charges.
Legeger was charged with sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl when he was a police officer in Queens in 1990, and was later acquitted by a jury in a civil trial.
The criminal investigation came after a woman in California said her former boyfriend’s father-in-law raped her when they were teenagers.
In March, California’s attorney general charged two men, James James and Eric James, with sexually assaulting a 14-year old girl who said she was abused by her stepfather.
The investigation was led by the California Department of Children and Family Services.
